Futures platforms
on Mac.

Most futures platforms were built for Windows. This guide sorts them by what actually runs on a Mac, which accounts they connect to, and what they cost, so you can find the best fit for your account and the way you trade.

Lightwick, which makes one of the apps compared. Details come from each vendor’s own pages, checked on October 9, 2026. We haven’t benchmarked the apps against one another.

Start with your account

Your account’s connection narrows the list before features do. Prop firms usually issue an account on one provider, chosen at purchase, and it can’t be moved to another.

A Rithmic account

The widest choice of native Mac apps: Lightwick, MotiveWave, and Bookmap. NinjaTrader only connects to Rithmic prop accounts from its Windows desktop app. Sign your market-data agreements first; the Rithmic on Mac guide covers how.

A Tradovate account

Tradovate’s own Mac app, NinjaTrader Web in a browser, and TradingView where your firm enables it. Native Rithmic apps, including Lightwick, can’t connect.

A Topstep account

Topstep trades on TopstepX, which runs in a browser. To use a Mac app, add TopstepX API access; Lightwick connects that way. Live Funded Accounts stay on TopstepX. See TopstepX on Mac.

A CQG account

MotiveWave and Bookmap list CQG connections on the Mac. Check your firm’s supported platforms for CQG accounts.

Compare the platforms

Listed from native Mac apps to Windows-only platforms. Prices are entry points for order flow features, not full costs: market data, broker or firm fees, and add-ons are extra.

Best for…

A Rithmic or Topstep account and an app that feels like a Mac app

Lightwick, which we make. It keeps the chart, DOM, order ticket, and account in one native window, with footprint charts, volume profile, and TPO charts. It has no liquidity heatmap, Time & Sales window, market replay, or tick-based bars yet, and it connects to Rithmic and TopstepX only.

The most connections and analysis tools on a Mac

MotiveWave. It runs on Intel and Apple silicon, connects to Rithmic, CQG, and several brokers, and its higher editions add automation and Elliott Wave tools.

Reading liquidity on a heatmap

Bookmap. The heatmap is the product, with native Mac versions and a Rithmic adapter. Its footprint is an add-on on the top plan.

A Tradovate-based account

Tradovate’s Mac app or TradingView. You keep server-side brackets and can switch to NinjaTrader Web with the same login.

NinjaScript, deep tick history, or a specific Windows tool

NinjaTrader, Sierra Chart, or classic ATAS in a Windows virtual machine. Of these, Sierra Chart is the one that publishes an ARM64 build for Apple silicon Macs.

What to test before you choose

  1. Connect your actual account. Use the firm-issued credentials and system, and confirm the account ID. Some apps support Rithmic but not every firm’s system.
  2. Open the same contract and expiry in each app. Compare chart data, session times, and whether the DOM shows the depth you pay for.
  3. Trade a busy minute in simulation. Place, move, and cancel orders around a data release. Watch how quickly fills and cancellations are confirmed.
  4. Set up your real workspace. Arrange your windows across displays, set your shortcuts, quit, and reopen to check it’s restored.
  5. Check the tools you rely on. For order entry, use the DOM guide; for order flow, the footprint and order flow guides; for systematic research, the backtesting guide; for trading several accounts at once, the copy trading guide.

Common questions

What is the best futures trading platform for Mac?

It depends on your account. For a Rithmic prop account, native options are Lightwick, MotiveWave, and Bookmap. For a Topstep account, Lightwick connects through TopstepX API access. For a Tradovate-based account, Tradovate’s Mac app, NinjaTrader Web, and TradingView all work without Windows. If you need NinjaScript or Sierra Chart’s depth of history, run them in a Windows virtual machine.

Does NinjaTrader work on a Mac?

NinjaTrader Web runs in a Mac browser, but NinjaTrader says Rithmic-based prop accounts cannot use Web or Mobile. NinjaTrader Desktop has no Mac version and needs Windows, which on an Apple silicon Mac means a virtual machine such as Parallels.

Can I trade a Topstep account in a Mac app?

Yes, with TopstepX API access, which Topstep sells separately for $29 a month, or $14.50 with its discount code. Lightwick connects to Topstep’s simulated accounts this way. Without it, Topstep accounts trade in TopstepX in a browser. Live Funded Accounts can’t use the API.

Which Mac platforms connect to Rithmic?

Native Mac apps with Rithmic connections include Lightwick, MotiveWave, and Bookmap, and ATAS X lists Rithmic in its beta. EdgeClear lists Rithmic for EdgeProX. Your firm must also allow the platform you choose.

Do I need Windows to sign Rithmic agreements?

Not always. Some firms, including Lucid and BluSky, provide a browser link for signing Rithmic agreements, so Mac users don’t need R | Trader Pro for that step.
